A voucher program that would allow Chicago Public Schools’ students to attend private schools is getting a cool response from Governor Pat Quinn.

The school voucher bill passed the state senate easily last week, but Quinn says he’s not sure the plan is a good one.

QUINN: Well I’m not in favor of vouchers. I’m gonna watch the process - it’s got to go to the House (of Representatives). I believe in public charter schools, and I’ve actually signed a bill this past year that expands the number of those across our state.

The Chicago Teachers Union also opposes the voucher plan. That group says the legislation would shortchange funding to schools that need money the most.
