Ill. Gov. Pat Quinn said legislators should prepare to re-address new labor rules for workers at McCormick Place. Labor groups sued after the General Assembly passed new rules that allow exhibitors to do more of their own work setting up for conventions, instead of using union workers. The matter is currently pending before a federal appeals court.

Quinn said Tuesday he wants to act before the court issues its opinion.

“I do think we need to address this subject again. I’d prefer to see a statute,” Quinn said. “I don’t really want to wait on another court to make decisions. I think that often times just delays things.”

Quinn wouldn’t say for sure whether he will bring legislators back to Springfield for a special session to deal with the issue. Earlier this year, a federal judge ruled against the new labor rules at McCormick Place, saying they violated the union’s contract.
