Zelda Lockhart, Piedmont Poet Laureate, reads from her new novel, Fifth Born II: The Hundredth Turtle.  This event is an evening of conversation and readings with the author. Her book is a sequel to the novel Fifth Born, and it takes the reader over the complicated waters of family division due to incest and homophobia. The author shares vignettes from the novel, which will give a sense of the characters and their negotiations with their own sense of self, relationships to others, personal alienation, and taboos and silences in the African-American community.

Recorded Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at DePaul University’s Courtelyou Commons.
