Cook County Republicans have elected a new chairman, their party’s third in the past seven months.

Aaron Del Mar , a 33-year-old member of Palatine’s Village Council, won the vote Wednesday night as GOP leaders gathered in Chicago’s Greek Town.

Del Mar said the vote followed a “robust, heated debate.”

“I think there’s a lot of different factions within the Republican Party of Cook County,” Del Mar said Wednesday night. “And one of my goals is to heal a lot of those issues. It’s not about North-South-East-West. It’s not about social issues. It’s about being Reagan Republicans and the party can’t be everything to everyone. And we need to concentrate on what we have in common and work off that. And that is less government, lower taxes and more personal freedoms.”

Del Mar beat out Joe Hedrick of Morton Grove in the Cook County GOP leadership race.

He replaces Sig Vaznelis of Lemont.

Also at the Wednesday meeting, Republican leaders voted to slate candidates for county-wide offices up for election in 2012. The ballot vacancies exist because no candidates ran in those GOP primaries.

Diane Shapiro is the party’s pick for circuit court clerk, Lori Yokoyama for state’s attorney and Sherri Griffith for recorder of deeds.
