The Illinois Republican delegation has hosted a variety of speakers this week at the national convention in Florida, but none were as tough on President Barack Obama as Mitt Romney surrogate John H. Sununu.

John H. Sununu, the former governor of New Hampshire, spoke at Thursday’s breakfast:. “Can you imagine a president who made promises to unite who has failed so badly and who has in such an unethical way promoted class warfare and racial tension?”

The tone of Sununu’s remarks were much harsher than previous speeches hosted by the Illinois delegation this week.

Sununu is known for his no holds barred style. 

He recently apologized for saying President Obama should “learn how to be an American.”

Illinois State Senator Kirk Dillard defended Sununus tough attitude at Thursday’s event.

“He’s a tough, East Coast politician. Much tougher rhetoric than perhaps some people from the Midwest are used to.”

Dillard says at this moment in American politics the country needs bluntness, not political correctness.
