Senegal’s democracy is holding steady. Macky Sall won a clear victory in the Senegalese presidential elections over the weekend. He defeated longtime leader Abdoulaye Wade. Wade’s bid for a third term — which would defy the two term limit — had sparked violence and protest throughout the country. Many Senegalese feared he wouldn’t leave power, but Wade conceded defeat several hours after the ballots had been counted.
