South Side Pastor Offers $10k Reward For Info On Shooting That Wounded Toddler
A South Side pastor is offering a $10,000 reward for information in a shooting that wounded a toddler last night.
Chicago police say a 4-year-old boy was shot in the face in the 6400 block of South King Drive. He is in critical condition at Comer Children’s Hospital. A 28-year-old woman was also wounded in the shooting. She is in good condition at Stroger Hospital.
Pastor Corey Brooks’ New Beginnings Church is just two blocks from the site of the shooting. Brooks said he knows the toddler’s mother. “She’s a strong, little lady and she does a good job raising her child and she was just out trying to have a good day with her child,” Brooks said. “She’s pretty messed up by the whole ordeal, but she’s strong and she’s hanging in there for her family.”
Brooks said the community had names of possible suspects for the evening shooting, and that the information had been given to police, but wouldn’t elaborate. His organization Project H.O.O.D. Is promising $10,000 for anyone who gives information leading to the conviction of the shooter.
Brooks said at the hospital this morning, doctors told the family that the 4-year-old child was heading in the right direction.
“What’s going to be even more difficult is to deal with the emotional and mental trauma that the child [has experienced].”
Police say no one is in custody and the investigation is still ongoing.
