Special Police Unit Will Cover Summer Hotspots
About a hundred Chicago Police Officers will spend the next few months on special patrol at summer hot-spots.
According to Superintendent Eddie Johnson, the Summer Mobile Patrol will have routine duties, like clearing parks at closing times. They’ll cover special events where police expect big crowds, and they’ll be available to respond to crime trends.
"If we have conflicts that emerge—or flare up in a particular neighborhood where we might see some gang activity—then we’ll make deployments based on that," Johnson said.
The patrol starts June 19 and runs through Labor Day.
