Vetusta Morla is a Spanish rock band that has pushed the boundaries of its genre. They add sounds and rhythms from outside the rock tradition, but they keep to rock’s core. How they produce and manage their work is unconventional as well: their two albums to date, Un Dia en el Mundo (2008) and Mapas (2011) were both released by Pequeño Salto Mortal, a label the group created to bypass the usual channels of the recording industry. Vetusta Morla is an emotional adventure that allows listeners to feel directly involved in the band’s musical experiences. Their live shows are forceful and intense, their lyrics—and the images they conjure—are abstract and indirect. This unique path has led them to top the charts, earned them prestigious awards in Spain, and had led to sold-out tours in Spain, Mexico, and Argentina.
