On Thursday, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak told ABC News that he wants to step down but fears chaos would ensue. Today, tens of thousands of pro-democracy protestors filled Tahrir Square and unlike the last few days, the military provided a strong presence to curtail violent attacks.

We’ll discuss the latest news from Egypt with Laith Saud, lecturer on Islamic World Studies at DePaul University. He’s partnering with several groups to organize a Chicago protest today at 5pm at the corner of Illinois and Michigan Avenues in support of Egypt’s pro-democracy demonstrations and Hossam Bahgat, Founder and Executive Director of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights and a recent recipient of the prestigious Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism from Human Rights Watch.

We also speak with Sheila Carapico, professor of political science and international studies at the University of Richmond. She’s currently in Cairo and wrote an article on Foreign Policy magazine’s website about the media’s coverage of the protests in Egypt. Alok Choudhary, chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at Northwestern University, also joins us.
