Through the TRANS›‹ATLANTIC project, the Goethe-Institut Chicago frequently hosts events addressing questions concerning social implications of the German-American relationship. The U.S. presidential election in November is seen as a defining moment for transatlantic relations, and is certainly inspiration enough for a panel discussion on the topic.  Whether John McCain or Barack Obama wins, a spirited discussion of German-American expectations, the definition of “Change”, and the future of the transatlantic relationshop will make for a lively evening.

Christoph Bertram is the former Director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London, and until 2005 Head of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, Berlin.

John Mearsheimer is the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago.

J.D. Bindenagel is the Vice President of Community, Government and International Affairs at DePaul University. He is also a former U.S. Ambassador, who served five times in three Germanys.
