For years, humans have wondered what it would be like to get inside the mind of another species, to understand how they thought, felt, and saw the world around them. Until recently our understanding of the minds of other species that share this planet was little more than guess work. However, new technological and scientific methods have advanced to the point where some of these important questions are now able to be addressed. Dr. Elizabeth Lonsdorf and Dr. Steve Ross, of Chicago’s own Lincoln Park Zoo, are editors of The Mind of the Chimpanzee: Ecological and Experimental Perspectives. These local experts will discuss recent findings about the minds of chimpanzees from researchers around the world. The lecture will explore topics such as communication, tool use, and cooperation, providing unprecedented insight into the thoughts and emotions of man’s closest relative.
