Tonight, another blast from last year’s World Music Festival 2007. Brooklyn’s One Ring Zero is primarily Joshua Camp and Michael Hearst. Their music relies on a unique set of instruments including the theremin, accordion and claviola to create a sound that veers towards klezmer with a decidedly indie rock flavor. We feature From the Stage with One Ring Zero.

Also a conversation with musician Amir El Saffar. Saffar is an Iraqi American who grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. In 2003, he traveled to Iraq to learn more about the Iraqi music known as maqam.

Today Amir blends the music of his homeland with jazz and sometimes a touch of funk. The New Yorker will lead a 16-piece ensemble next week in Millenium Park.
