Writer Patrick Symmes had plans to check out Yemen’s nascent tourism industry when he visited in March.  Instead he found himself in the midst of political upheaval and widespread demonstrations. Eventually he was kicked out of the country along with most other foreign reporters. Days later, the Yemeni government began to crack down on the protesters. At least 94 have been killed since early April.

Patrick wrote about his trip in the article “Sand Storm,” which appears in the June issue of Outside Magazine.

Patrick Symmes shot this video at one of the protests he witnessed in Sanaa, Yemen.
