Spencer Leak, Sr. sees the impact of violence first hand; many of his clients have been violently murdered. As the owner of Leak and Sons Funeral Homes, Leak aims to provide families who have lost loved ones to violence with closure. Sometimes, that means playing the role of counselor in addition to funeral home director.
You may remember Spencer Leak, Sr. from the award-winning documentary, The Interrupters, in which he speaks of his experiences laying so many young people to rest.
Today just after 3:30 on the Afternoon Shift, we’ll talk more with Leak, Sr. about what’s causing the violence that’s tearing some Chicago communities apart, and what can be done to stop it. In addition to owning Leak and Sons Funeral Homes, Leak, Sr. is a former executive director of the Cook County Department of Corrections, and he currently serves as a commissioner on the Illinois Human Rights Commission.
