Lombard village trustees have voted to save the historic DuPage Theater from destruction.

After years of debate about the theater, the village will provide tax incentives to fund the restoration.

Kevin Fitzpatrick is the vice president of a citizen’s group that worked to save the theater.

He says the project will bring more business to downtown Lombard.

“It’s an enormously liberating thing to see that it’s going forward and not just for the theater, for the downtown, for the economic activity, for the new housing, just the character of the entire town,” he says.

Fitzpatrick says the restored theater will have 300 seats along with a new marquee and facade.
