Deerfield-based Walgreen Company is expanding its Illinois operations. The company plans to add 500 jobs over the next three years, partly focusing on growing its online business.

Under the deal, Walgreen will be eligible for state tax credits over the next 10 years. Ill. Gov. Pat Quinn says he wants the company to keep growing.

“I think this firm, because it’s in just about every zip code in Illinois, it understands that everybody’s included, nobody’s left out,” Quinn said Friday.

Walgreen is spending $75 million to expand more than two dozen of its corporate offices. The new jobs are not at individual Walgreen stores, but the company says it expects more store-level jobs will be coming. Walgreen already employs 5,000 people in its Deerfield headquarters and surrounding offices.
