By WeekenderI caught Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy this week – it’s one of the movies we talked about on 848 today.
The film is based on a John Le Carré spy novel so of course the plot involves lots of duplicity, doubt and double upon triple crosses. Every one of the characters just might be a Russian mole operating inside the ‘Circus’ – that’s the code name for the British Secret Intelligence Service.
But what really got me?
The film’s very drawn out reveal of the spy involves frequent flash backs to the – get this – office holiday party! A man dressed up like Santa but sporting a Lenin mask serenades his co-workers. A suave snake in the grass gets close with a colleague’s wife. And between the weak punch, thick cigarette smoke and meaningful glances, some rather cloak and dagger politics unfold.
Sounds like the typical holiday gathering, no?!
No doubt many of you will experience your own version of the above this weekend - and the best of luck to you!
Watching the film might help you navigate the treacherous shoals of office politics. Or skip the celebration entirely for some other weekend fun– my top picks are below.
