The Civic Federation and the Friends of the Forest Preserves released their report this morning. It calls for separating the forest preserves from county government under its own elected board. Commissioner Mike Quigley agrees.

QUIGLEY: There is not a lot of strong green environmentalists on the board and their priority seems to be to serve the county first and the forest preserve is the red haired step child.

Commissioner Larry Suffredin says the report opens up an important discussion about how to improve the management of a valuable natural resource.

A spokesman for Board President Todd Stroger says Stroger believes the forest preserves are well managed and getting the attention they need under the current structure.
