With Barack Obama pretty much sealing up the Democratic presidential nomination last night, its a good time to consider what an Obama Presidency could mean for Washington politics. A few weeks ago Salon.com ran a feature by Dan Conley, a former speech writer for Mayor Daley, which claimed Obama would bring a “post-partisan” style of politics to Washington due to his experience in Chicago. Many of the 100+ comments on the story didn’t buy Conley’s claim that Chicago has overcome it’s patronage-plagued past to become a paragon of progressive cooperation. Neither did the Chicago Reader’s Michael Miner. So what do you think- has Chicago politics progressed to a place that it could serve as a model to overcome partisan divides on the national scene?
