WordPlay, Young Chicago Authors’ ten year old open mic and workshop series, heads into Winter with Hip Hop Novelist Adam Mansbach (Angry Black White Boy and The End of the Jews), who leads a youth writing exercise inspired by his communication with his Dutch translator. …how do you translate “living fly” or “to outrun 5-0 in a subway lay-up” into Dutch?  Pick up your pen and settle in - this workshop focuses on how culture and meaning are communicated across global boundaries and asks the students to defamiliarize their most familiar habits and interactions.

WordPlay is an open space for teen writers, rhymers, and performers to showcase their work to peers and the public.  Each session begins with an hour-long writing workshop, led by a working writer who specializes in topic, genre, or form.

Recorded Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Young Chicago Authors.
