Over the weekend, anti-government protesters in Libya claimed control of the North African nation’s second biggest city, Benghazi. In an early morning address, Muammar Qaddafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, warned that Libya could become embroiled in a bloody civil war if the unrest continued. In Bahrain, demonstrators began to set up tents in Pearl Square after security forces withdrew on Friday. We’ll get a sense of where the pro-democracy movents are headed with Middle East scholar Joseph Kechichian. In Algeria, demonstrations slated for Saturday drew smaller numbers than expected. Freelance journalist Assia Boundaoui, who was in Algiers over the weekend, tells us more.
