Last August, WBEZ’s Natalie Moore spent a couple of weeks in Libya as a fellow for Columbia College-Chicago’s Institute for the Study of Women and Gender in the Arts and Media to study the country’s nascent women’s movement. We’ll talk with her about the current deadly unrest in the country. Also, Peter Orner, editor of the new book Hope Deferred: Narratives of Zimbabwean Lives, will tell us about the people behind the oral testimonies from the impoverished nation once known as “The Breadbasket of Africa.” And on this week’s Global Notes, the album Soul Call by Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon may have garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary World Music Recording, but the music is rooted in 6,000 years of tradition.
