Social media has helped fueled recent uprisings across the Middle East, but the digital age is still young in this part of the world. In Egypt, less then ten percent of the population is actually on Facebook and Twitter. We’ll talk with Jeffrey Ghannam, author of “Social Media in the Arab World: Leading up to the Uprisings of 2011”. And David Cortright, director of policy studies at the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, recently presented a report to the United Nations titled “Afghan Women Speak: Enhancing Security and Human Rights in Afghanistan.” The report is based on dozens of on-the-ground interviews with women in Kabul last April and May. We’ll hear about his findings.
