As a foreign correspondent in Pakistan and Afghanistan,  Kim Barker gave readers on-the-ground accounts that captured the absurdities and tragedies of life in a war zone. Her new book, The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, talks about her evolution from an unsure newbie to a seasoned reporter with serious concerns about the U.S.'s ability to win hearts and minds in the region.  And Farouq Samim, her "fixer,"  tells us what it was like to guide an American journalist  through his country.
