Advocates Warn Budget Cuts Could Devastate Legal System

Legal advocates are warning that expected budget cuts in Cook County could devastate the court system. 

The repeal of the soda tax left a $200 million hole in the county budget. Legal experts at the Northwestern Bluhm legal clinic say anticipated cuts to positions like public defenders and staff attorneys could compromise public safety and put constitutional rights at serious risk.
