A coalition of immigrant and African-American workers on Chicago’s West Side say the city ignores racist labor practices in areas that benefit from TIF funds. They rallied outside an Aryzta Bakery plant in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood to claim that the company underpays undocumented workers and fires black workers unfairly. They say since Aryzta sits in a city-supported TIF district, it should be made to comply with fair employment practices. The company and the city did not immediately respond.
