Chicago lawyer Renato Mariotti is the seventh declared Democrat aiming to succeed Lisa Madigan. Like Mariotti, state Representative Scott Drury and former Chicago police watchdog Sharon Fairley served in the U.S. attorney’s office. Mariotti’s best-known courtroom victory was a $105 million federal fraud case that resulted in developer Larry Freed’s 2016 conviction.
