About 100 local activists and community leaders rallied in downtown Chicago Wednesday to demand debt relief for Hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.
They want brokerage firms like Merrill Lynch to put a hold on payments due for the country’s estimated $73 billion in debt. A spokesperson for Merrill Lynch said in an email Puerto Rican bonds are owned by clients, not their company.
