The Chicago Community Catalyst Fund will start giving out loans later this year, according to City Treasurer Kurt Summer.

Summers says the loans are “long-term investments to fill a gap in access to capital that we don’t have in our neighborhoods, especially black and brown neighborhoods,” and that the new $100 million fund will seek the same rates of return that the city does on its other investments.

On Tuesday, Aldermen wanted to know what kinds of projects the fund will invest in, but that remains unclear.
