Cook County attorneys are asking a judge to dismiss a case over the county’s bail system. The case argues that county judges set bail higher than some defendants can afford and that it is unconstitutional. Lawyers for the county said the case should be thrown out because the chief judge already released an order addressing just this issue and telling judges they could not set unaffordable bail. But plaintiffs say that order is entirely voluntary and could be undone at anytime.
