Cook County Officials Say They Are Working To Reduce Upcoming Layoffs

Cook County officials say they are working on a plan that would reduce the number of layoffs that could be voted on at Tuesday’s budget hearing. Last week, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle put out a budget plan that involved about 400 layoffs — mainly in the county courts and jail. But County Commissioner Larry Suffredin says negotiations have continued and he expects that when commissioners vote tomorrow morning, the budget will have significantly fewer layoffs in it.
