The Democratic candidates for Illinois governor are increasingly getting asked what they think of their own party’s leader, House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Chris Kennedy says Madigan shouldn’t be both a lawmaker and a property tax appeals lawyer. State Senator Daniel Biss says Madigan’s too powerful and it holds back the Democratic Party. JB Pritzker wouldn’t say Madigan’s been around too long, but he did say he thinks there should be term limits on how long someone should be a legislative leader. Bob Daiber praised Madigan for holding Illinois together during Governor Bruce Rauner’s term. And Tio Hardiman said he would work with Madigan.
