The Cook County Democratic Committee has filled the vacancy left by the death of Commissioner Robert Steele last month. Eleven candidates made their case before the committee Thursday morning. In the end, the committee appointed Dennis Deer, a psychologist and businessman from the West Side who had the support of Steele’s family and the committee chairman. Deer will likely face some of the same candidates in the general election.
