Housing Advocates Push To Overturn Rent Control Ban
A coalition of housing advocates in Chicago are pushing to overturn Illinois’ ban on rent control.
Activists and residents gathered this morning in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood in support of a referendum that would tackle a current statewide ban on rent control.
Unlike in New York and other states, Illinois politicians are barred from setting limits on rent increases.
Organizers say getting rid of the ban would help protect low-income renters.
