Inspector General: City Contractors Have Violated ‘Base Wage’ Ordinance

Chicago’s base wage ordinance is supposed to ensure that city contractors pay employees doing city work at least $2.30 an hour. But a report released today by the Office of the Inspector General estimates four security guard and janitorial companies that contract with Chicago underpaid workers nearly $300,000 over the course of three years.
