Chicago’s Inspector General released a damning reporting on the police department’s use of overtime this week. It found that almost a million dollars of overtime pay was authorized by the actual officer earning it.

The report also identified common overtime scams — like the self appointed “DUI guys” who focus on DUI arrests to get more court overtime.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson says they will begin moving to electronic timesheets by the end of this year. He said the CPD also began its own audits of overtime use.
