Uptown Tent Communities Disband Under Pressure
Two days after homeless people were forced to leave their encampments in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, the strong community they formed has dispersed. Residents of the so-called tent cities in the Wilson and Lawrence Avenue viaducts beneath Lakeshore Drive had initially moved just west of those locations when the city began construction work on those bridges. But police made them move from that location on Monday night. On Wednesday morning, they were made to move again from a third location in Uptown, and those who remained outside said they were not sure where they could go.
