After 50 Years In U.S., Iraqi Man Faces Deportation

Nahidh Shaou was five years old when his family brought him to the U.S. from Iraq. Fifty years later, he now faces deportation back to Iraq.

Shaou is a U.S. Army veteran and Chaldean Christian. He speaks no Arabic and has no family left in Iraq. For these reasons, Shaou says sending him back is the equivalent of a death sentence.

Tiara Shaya, Shaou’s niece and spokesperson, tells us more about her uncle’s case and how President’s Trump’s travel ban could endanger lives of American residents of Iraqi descent.
