Global Notes: Bombay Rickey's Kamala Sankaram

What do Peruvian vocalist Yma Sumac, Bollywood and a New York coloratura soprano have in common? Music of course. And it all comes together in the trio Bombay Rickey. Just as Bollywood film music has a history of borrowing from other cultures so too does this trio. At the center is singer Kamala Sankaram with her remarkable five octave voice. She joins us on this week’s Global Notes with Radio M and Morning Shift host Tony Sarabia, with more on the band’s origins and its musical philosophy. We’ll also hear some tracks from Bombay Rickey’s debut release Cinefonia: Cowboys & Indians PHOTO: (Courtesy of Christopher Lovenguth/Bombay Rickey)
