Global Notes: “Sunfest” is Canada’s Rising World Music Festival

One of Canada’s biggest world music festivals was started by a Guatemalan refugee 24 years ago. Sunfest takes over the main city park in London, Ontario with acts from Cape Verde to Cuba. It’s quickly becoming a must-attend for world music aficionados. Alfredo Caxaj, who immigrated to Canada in 1985, says the festival is a chance for Canada to experience diversity outside of big cities like Toronto and Montreal. We’re going to hear some of the hits from this year’s festival with Catalina Maria Johnson, the host and producer of Beat Latino on Vocalo.
