Obama threatens Russia with harsher sanctions

President Obama announced yesterday that more aggression by Russia in Ukraine would be met with an escalation of new sanctions by the West that could seriously cripple Russia’s already fragile economy. But critics wonder why the White House hasn’t been more aggressive with its sanction regime. Washington maintains it’s more advantageous to hold the threat of new sanctions over Moscow’s head. George Lopez is vice president of the Academy for International Conflict Management and Peacebuilding at the Unites States Institute of Peace. He has co-written and edited numerous books and articles on economic sanctions. Lopez will tell us what he thinks are the best ways to utilize sanctions to force a diplomatic solution with Russia.
