Shock Result in Congo Elections
Congo's National Electoral Commission announced today that opposition candidate Felix Tshisekedi won the country’s presidential election, upsetting moderate opposition leader, Martin Fayulu. Both candidates beat out the chosen favorite of outgoing president Joseph Kabila, who refused to relinquish power for more than two years after his constitutional term ended. The country’s influential Conference of Catholic Bishops sent 40,000 observers to make sure the election went off smoothly. The Catholics believe Fayulu was the rightful winner. To discuss, we’re joined by Kambale Musavuli, national spokesperson of Friends of the Congo.
