“Streetwear” as a Chicago and Global Movement

When you hear the word “streetwear”, perhaps the first cities that come to mind are New York, L.A., maybe even Tokyo or Paris. But where does Chicago fit into this landscape? Streetwear has roots in hip-hop, skate, and other fringe scenes of the 80s and 90s. Streetwear is now a worldwide phenomenon. We recently spoke with David Rasool Robinson about his work in the world of streetwear, what customers want, trends like techwear, and the global appeal of the subculture. David is a buyer and manager at Saint Alfred, a sneaker and streetwear boutique located in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood.
