U.S. To Lift Ban On Burma Gems

Last week, President Obama met with State Counsellor and de facto leader of Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi. After the meeting, Mr. Obama announced a lifting of U.S. sanctions and restoration of trade between the two countries.

One such rollback would end the ban on Burmese precious gems. Human rights proponents criticize the move, citing Burma’s continuing human rights violations.
