World History Minute: The Fall of Troy (April 24, 1183 BC)
Today in really ancient history, the city of Troy is thought to have fallen to the Greeks. Troy was a prosperous city on the western coast of Turkey. While its history is documented primarily in Greek literary works, Troy was an actual city that was actually destroyed in a great war. For now, says historian John Schmidt, our best guess -- April 24, 1183 B.C., is a good a date as any to commemorate its defeat.
