#WVBus: Who is Pop Art For? A Chat with South Asian-Canadian Artist Hatecopy

A couple of weeks ago, the Worldview team took the show on the road for our #WVBus tour of the Great Lakes Region. We stopped in London and Toronto, Ontario to learn more about Canadian multiculturalism, and while we were there, Worldview’s Ashish Valentine met up with Pakistani-Canadian artist Maria Qamar - better known by her Instagram alias, Hatecopy. Maria’s playful, witty illustrations mix Roy Liechtenstein-inspired pop art aesthetics with the melodrama of Indian soap operas, and she and Ashish talked about how her work explores gender, queerness and the nuances of navigating cultural identities in the South Asian diaspora.
