Blagojavech Pushes Medical Coverage for Illinois Children

“Governor Rod Blagojevich says more than 200 advocacy groups have endorsed his plan to
guarantee health insurance for all Illinois children.

But Republicans accuse him of trying to ram through the proposal for political advantage. Representatives of educational, religious and medical groups spoke alongside Blagojevich in Chicago yesterday and said such a proposal is long overdue. They vowed to help push it through the Legislature during the fall veto session.

The plan would offer insurance for children of families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid-funded health programs but
not enough to afford private insurance.
But Republican State Senator Dale Righter says Blagojevich drew up his plan without sufficient analysis or discussion.

Illinois’ two largest medical associations haven’t endorsed Governor Rod Blagojevich’s plan to guarantee health insurance for all Illinois children.

The Illinois Hospital Association and the Illinois State Medical Society say they don’t yet have enough details to support the All Kids program.
