Governor Promotes Health Plan to Lawmakers

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich urged lawmakers today to pass his health care plan for kids. The governor gave his speech before a joint session of the General Assembly.

Blagojevich says his plan would offer affordable, comprehensive health care to every child in the state, and framed his plan as a historic opportunity to improve the lives of 250,000 kids in Illinois without health insurance.

Senate President Emil Jones and House Speaker Michael Madigan are the lead sponsors of the measure to create the “All Kids” health insurance program.

Meantime, federal investigators are conducting a grand jury probe into the hiring practices within the governor’s administration. Blagojevich’s office says the subpoena delivered Monday is similar to one served earlier this month to the State Department of Children and Family Services. That one requested information about job applicants and hires.
