Ozzie Becomes American Citizen

SHARE Ozzie Becomes American Citizen

It’s Chicago White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen’s birthday Friday.

It’s also the day he becomes an American citizen.

Dozens of reporters, photographers and cameramen swarmed the naturalization ceremony for Guillen, his wife Ibis and their son Oney.

Before Judge Marvin Aspen swore them all in, he told stories of the baseball star’s career since his rookie year in 1985.

Guillen says he and his family will maintain dual citizenship between the U.S. and his home country of Venezuela.

Guillen’s son Oney tells another side of the story that his father failed to mention. He says the family was up until 1 a.m. studying for the civics test.

The family planned to celebrate Friday evening.
